Can I really start for free?
Yes. Three starter workshops - including Programming Foundations and Dev & AI Setup - are free forever, no card required. Modules 0 and 1 of every paid course are also free to preview.
What's the difference between a course and a pathway?
A course is a self-contained workshop. A pathway is an ordered sequence - like AI Engineer - where each course builds on the last. Pro unlocks both.
Do I get the source code?
Yes. Every lesson includes runnable code you execute locally, and it is yours to keep and extend.
What happens when I cancel Pro?
You keep Pro access through the end of the paid period. Free workshops and any course you bought separately remain available; subscription-only courses lock again afterward.
What is the difference between AI-Assisted mode and the AI tutor?
AI-Assisted mode gives you a course-authored prompt, acceptance criteria, and verification to use with the coding agent of your choice. The Lumina tutor is built into the course and uses the lesson you are studying as context. The tutor is included with Pro.
Is Lumina suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Start with Programming Foundations or the AI Engineer pathway, which includes the Python foundations sequence. Backend Engineering expects prior Python knowledge and says so on the pathway page.
Do I need a paid AI account or API keys?
Not for Programming Foundations or most core programming courses. Some AI projects use external model APIs and clearly identify the required key and any free or paid options before you begin. AI-Assisted mode can use whichever coding agent you already prefer.
Are there extra costs for cloud services or domains?
Most work runs locally. Courses that use external services explain the expected cost in advance and favor free tiers. The production website pathway requires your own domain; typical Cloudflare domain cost is approximately US$1 per month, depending on the domain.
How long do courses take? Are they self-paced?
Everything is self-paced. Course pages show an estimated hands-on time based on the curriculum; your actual time depends on the learning mode and how deeply you explore each build.
What is included when I buy one course?
A one-time course purchase gives your account lifetime access to that complete course, its three learning modes, runnable code, progress tracking, and its completion certificate. It does not unlock the rest of the library or the subscription-only tutor.
Are courses available in English and Spanish?
Yes. Every currently available course and pathway has English and Spanish content, and you can switch languages from the site navigation.
Are certificates accredited, and how do refunds work?
Certificates are verifiable Lumina Labs completion certificates, not accredited academic qualifications. Eligible purchases include a 10-day withdrawal right, and subscriptions can be canceled from your account. Full details and direct request forms are linked in the footer.
